Why we exist
When youβre in the Wild, your Gear is a lifeline
GransforsAxes.com, owned by NORTH RIVER OUTDOORS was founded by Jesse Crim out of a genuine passion for the outdoors and a frustration with big-box gear that wasnβt built to last.
We set out to create a destination for people who value craftsmanship, durability, and the right tool for the job, and weβve been doing it from our Goochland, Virginia storefront since 2012.
Three Pillars of the Modern Woodsman
What we stand behind
Curated knives
From everyday-carry folders to heavy-duty bushcraft blades, we carry world-class makers including Benchmade, Chris Reeve, and Bark River.
Hand-forged axes
A premier destination for traditional axes and hatchets, including GrΓ€nsfors Bruk, forged by hand to last generations.
Professional outdoor gear
Every pack, light, and tool in our shop is chosen for its ability to withstand the elements and perform when it matters most.
Why weβre different
Independently owned
One of the few independently owned and operated outdoor stores. When you call or visit, you deal with the people who run the shop.
Handled and tested
We donβt just put boxes on shelves. We handle, test, and service the gear we sell.
Authorized dealer
Buy with confidence: genuine product, backed by the makers, from a team that knows it.
Fast shipping

We donβt just sell tools. We help you maintain them.
Beyond the sale: our services

Axe rehandling and restoration
Bring heritage tools back to life with a new handle and careful restoration.

Our community
A Hub for the Outdoor Community
Located near the historic James River and a short trek from the Blue Ridge Mountains, our Virginia storefront is more than a shop. Itβs a place to talk gear, learn a skill, and get ready for your next trip.
